April Storms Restoration Update

Since yesterday, our restoration workers have restored nearly 100,000 of the 176,000 Louisiana customer outages at the peak of yesterday’s storms. At 6 a.m., we continue restoring service, with 78,000 customers out of service because of the storms. Outages at 6 a.m. included:

  • Over 28,000 in East Baton Rouge parish.
  • Over 10,000 in Jefferson parish.
  • Nearly 8,800 in Ascension parish.
  • Over 6,200 in Orleans parish.
We expect to restore 90 percent of the Louisiana customers affected by this storm customers by tonight, including Lafayette and Jennings, with nearly all restored by Wednesday. Some in the hardest hit areas near Baton Rouge and Labadieville could take until Thursday to restore.

The high winds downed numerous trees and power lines across a broad geographical area, with the Baton Rouge and New Orleans metro areas among the hardest hit regions. We estimate at least 300 utility poles were damaged by the storm and will have to be replaced. We identified 19 substations and 82 transmission line segments that were impacted in Louisiana.

The storms packed winds gusts, tornadoes, large hail and frequent lightning strikes. There were reports of tornadoes in Kenner, Belle Chasse and Labadieville areas, and wind gusts reported of over 100 mph.

We are bringing in more than 400 additional restoration workers into Louisiana, to help us as we continue the restoration process.
