Entergy’s storm-response achievements continue uninterrupted, as the Edison Electric Institute awarded the company a 2017 Emergency Recovery Award and Emergency Assistance Award. This marks the 20th consecutive year EEI has recognized Entergy employees for their emergency response skills.

Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Leo Denault and Group President of Utility Operations Rod West accepted the awards on Jan. 10.

EEI’s Emergency Recovery Award recognizes outstanding power restoration efforts on behalf of our customers following Hurricane Harvey in August. Entergy employees received the Emergency Assistance Award for helping other utility companies recover from devastation caused by Hurricane Irma in September.

“Our process of year-round planning means we stay prepared to respond to outages caused by any type of storm,” said Mike Vaughan, system storm incident commander. “Our effort to build in more opportunities to focus on safety during restoration resulted in our working these recovery and assistance events without experiencing a significant on-the-job injury.”

“The tireless work by Entergy crews during Hurricane Harvey exemplifies our industry’s commitment to customer service,” said EEI President Tom Kuhn. “While many of Entergy’s employees were impacted by Harvey, crews worked diligently and often in dangerous conditions to restore service to customers safely and as quickly as possible. The dedicated crews of Entergy are very deserving of this award.

“When disaster impacts a region, electric companies from across the nation are called on to assist impacted companies in need – mutual assistance is a hallmark of our industry,” added Kuhn. “When Hurricane Irma struck, Entergy answered the call to help. Entergy’s assistance to restore service to impacted customers is a terrific example of mutual assistance in action.”

The awards are presented twice annually to EEI member companies to recognize their extraordinary efforts to restore power to customers and for assisting another utility company after service disruptions caused by severe weather conditions or other natural events.
