After a tough loss last week, New Orleans Saints fans are hoping the home field advantage at the ‘Dome will help the team put another game in the win column this Sunday, Dec. 17, against the New York Jets.

It’s already a victory for Jonathan Merriman, a senior lineman from Senatobia, Miss., who will be honored as an Entergy Lineman of the Game during the event.

“Jonathan is a safety leader throughout Mississippi and an excellent mentor for newer linemen in his area,” said Robbin Jeter, Entergy Mississippi vice president of customer service. “He’s also very customer oriented, going above and beyond to serve our customers. This is a great opportunity to recognize Jonathan for his dedication and to thank him for representing Entergy well in the communities we serve.”

Merriman has always been drawn to problem-solving and working with his hands. Growing up he saw how his uncle, a career lineman, was able to help others through his job. Merriman says that inspired him to pursue line work for his own career.

“I enjoy working with customers and making sure they have what they need to carry on their daily activities,” Merriman said. “It feels good to help customers keep or restore their power, especially after a storm.”

Merriman often participates when Entergy Mississippi crews are called to assist in storm restorations, including spending several weeks restoring power in Texas and Florida following hurricanes Harvey and Irma.

When he’s not working, Merriman enjoys hunting, fishing and spending time with his wife, Mindy, and their three children, Mackenzie, Bentley and Blayne. This will be the couple’s first time attending an NFL game and they’re looking forward to celebrating the magical holiday season – and hopefully a Saints win – while in New Orleans for the game.

“We’re both excited to attend and we don’t know what to expect except it’s going to be a once in a lifetime experience for us,” he said. “I’m just grateful for the opportunity. It makes me proud of how I represent myself and how I do my job that I’d be chosen for this honor.”

John Arledge, Entergy Mississippi vice president of public affairs, will join Merriman on the field during the game to thank him for helping Entergy power lives!
