Company teams with local organizations to provide free Super Tax Day prep

NEW ORLEANS – On Super Bowl weekend, Entergy New Orleans will kick off the tax season by making sure the big winners are local customers who claim their Earned Income Tax Credit.

Along with Total Community Action, Inc., United Way of Southeast Louisiana and Asset Building Coalition, volunteers will help qualified customers with free tax prep during Super Tax Day, which is being held Feb. 4 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

In addition to assisting with tax preparation, Entergy’s local community partners also are offering a number of programs designed to help families use tax refunds to increase savings and financial well-being. Programs such as financial coaching, budget workshops, free legal services, healthy food and lifestyle choices and matched savings accounts for qualified families are some of the many services offered on Super Tax Day.

“Providing assistance in securing Earned Income Tax Credits through Super Tax Day helps our customers and our community,” said Charles Rice, president and CEO of Entergy New Orleans. “New tools and programs mean our Super Tax Day event will have long-term benefits to help power our customers’ lives now and in the future. This Super Bowl weekend, visitors to the Superdome will be the real winners.”

Entergy’s support of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program in the four states the utility serves – Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas – has resulted in approximately 93,000 customers receiving $162 million through the EITC program since 2011. In New Orleans, nearly 16,000 residents have received some $30 million since Entergy New Orleans launched the program by partnering with local advocates six years ago. And last year, more than 2,500 qualified New Orleanians received some $5 million in Earned Income Tax Credits.

Additional programs at the Super Tax Day in the Superdome will include food distribution from Second Harvest Food Bank, appearances by the New Orleans Saints, the onsite EnrollNOLA Schools EXPO, free legal assistance, the Individual Development Accounts program, activities for children while they wait for their parents, plus much more.
