Motorists Urged to Drive Cautiously in Work Areas

Port Arthur, Texas -- Contract workers for Entergy Texas, Inc. have already completed one project in Port Arthur and are moving on to three others in new neighborhoods.

Two projects currently underway involve clearing vegetation from a power line that originates from the Westside Substation on Thomas Boulevard  and the Crowder Substation near Herring Avenue in Port Neches. A third project, set to begin April 15, will do the same on a power line originating from the Ft. Worth Substation on Ft. Worth Avenue in Port Arthur.

The power line out of the Westside Substation is six miles long and serves 377 customers in an area northeast of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive between Thomas Boulevard, Grannis Avenue and Proctor Street. Work is expected to last four weeks, depending on weather.

The power line out of the Crowder Substation is more than 16 miles long and provides electricity to 1,573 customers. It serves an area northeast of Twin City Highway between Magnolia Avenue and Avenue H in Nederland. Work on that line is expected to last about six weeks.

The project set to start later this month on a power line out of the Ft. Worth Substation will clear a line more than 18 miles long that serves 1,283 customers in the 19th Street, Thomas Boulevard and Houston Avenue areas.

Drivers are urged to pay attention to work crews in these areas and to drive with caution.  "It's common for us to have crews in an area and move them from line to line in the general vicinity when we do our regular maintenance work," said Ron Fletcher, customer service representative for the area. "It's important for us to be as efficient as possible in order to keep up with our maintenance work in a way that provides the most benefit to our customers."

Entergy Texas invests about $7 million per year in its vegetation management program, trimming an average of 2,000 line miles annually.

Entergy Texas, Inc. provides electricity to more than 426,000 customers in 27 counties. It is a subsidiary of Entergy Corporation. Entergy is an integrated energy company engaged primarily in electric power production and retail distribution operations.
