Dedication to the Workforce of the Future

An integral part of Entergy Louisiana’s continued growth is investing in those who are helping to discover the next big thing – students.

The company is supporting initiatives that move exploration out of the textbook and focus on providing students with opportunities for hands-on experimentation. Through Entergy Louisiana’s partnerships, the company is exposing students to real-world applications of science, technology, engineering and math while emphasizing problem-solving.

As part of a multi-year, multi-million dollar investment to help create a competitive edge for students in Entergy Louisiana’s local communities, the company teamed up with Baton Rouge Community College and Louisiana Economic Development to sponsor BRCC’s P-Tech Experience Summer Camp.

“We have an opportunity to help students do extraordinary things and prepare them for their future careers,” said Phillip May, President and CEO of Entergy Louisiana. “Programs like P-Tech give students the chance to put on the lab coat, touch the equipment, ask the questions, open their minds and experience the feeling of being an engineer.”

That’s how the students felt when they attended a recent Saturday morning summer camp session at BRCC. “I want to build things and make them better,” said Kaelin Polk, one of the students attending the P-Tech summer camp. “I see things that I use every day, and I just know there has to be a new way to use it.”

“Programs that give students the out-of-classroom time to broaden their minds are helping to create a pipeline of curious and prepared elementary, middle and high school students who are ready to take the next steps to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and math fields of study,” said Girard Melancon, executive director for workforce education at BRCC. “These programs instill confidence and inspire and motivate students.”

By investing in education, infrastructure or working to attract new jobs, Entergy Corporation is focused on creating a brighter future for all of our communities. In 2016, the company announced a five year, $5 million commitment to help build the highly trained workforce required for the jobs of the future across Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas.
