More than 95% of Customers Restored as Crews Narrow in on Hard-Hit Areas

04/29/2020

Crews have restored power to more than 95% of the approximately 53,000 customers affected by a storm system that swept across Louisiana Wednesday.

Crews expect to restore power to most Louisiana customers who can safely take power by tonight, with some in the hardest-hit areas of Calcasieu, Terrebonne, Tangipahoa and Jefferson parishes being restored by late Thursday.

Two waves of thunderstorms, some with wind gusts of more than 60 mph, struck Louisiana, the first Tuesday night and the second moving across the state Wednesday morning. The storms downed trees and limbs and damaged electrical infrastructure across the state.

Crews restored power to thousands of customers affected by the initial wave of storms Tuesday night, when the second storm system traveled southward across Louisiana, knocking out power to thousands. On Wednesday, crews continued assessing damage, gathering materials and equipment, isolating parts of the power grid and restoring power where it was safe to do so. They faced equipment and accessibility challenges in some of the hardest-hit locations that they are narrowing in on tonight.

Crews are taking extra precautions to remain safe during the COVID-19 pandemic, including following social distancing guidelines set forth by health officials. These challenges could extend restoration times, especially in areas of numerous, widespread outages. Please continue to keep your distance from crews and their work zones so that we can all remain safe. If you see a downed power line, stay away and immediately report it 1-800-ENTERGY.
