BATON ROUGE, LA – Entergy is marking a special day Monday, April 18, when it honors its thousands of frontline workers on National Lineman Appreciation Day. The designation was established by the U.S. Senate in 2013 in recognition of those who work tirelessly to keep the lights on in our communities.

“We have a motto at Entergy that simply says, ‘We power life,’” said Phillip May, president of CEO of Entergy Louisiana. “It’s one we believe in, but also one we know we wouldn’t be able to live by if not for the highly-skilled workforce that every day tends to the many facets of our electrical system.

“No one quite understands the phrase ‘soaked to the bone’ like our linemen,” May added. “Whether it’s a hurricane, spring tornado, summer line maintenance or winter ice storm, our employees are out there – working to get the lights on, making our customers comfortable and getting our industries back up and running.”

Employees maintain more than 38,000 miles of distribution and transmission lines and 670 substations.

May said, “Entergy is the electric provider to more than 1.2 million electricity customers and has operations in 62 of the state’s 64 parishes. Without our linemen, we would not be able to deliver to safe, reliable and affordable energy to homes, businesses and communities in Louisiana.”

To participate in honoring line workers and their families, use the hashtag #thankalineman in social media.

Entergy Louisiana, LLC provides electric service to more than 1 million customers and natural gas service to approximately 93,000 customers in the greater Baton Rouge area. With operations in southern, central and northeastern Louisiana, the company is a subsidiary of Entergy Corporation.

Entergy owns and operates power plants with approximately 30,000 megawatts of electric generating capacity, including nearly 10,000 megawatts of nuclear power. Entergy delivers electricity to 2.8 million utility customers in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas. Entergy has annual revenues of approximately $11.5 billion and more than 13,000 employees.
