Entergy Elects Retired Admiral Kirkland Donald to Board of Directors

NEW ORLEANS – Entergy Corporation today announced the election of Admiral Kirkland H. Donald, U. S. Navy (retired) to its Board of Directors.

Donald, 59, spent 38 years as an officer in the U.S. Navy and is currently executive vice president, chief operating officer and a member of the Board of Directors of Systems Planning and Analysis, Inc.

"We are fortunate to add someone of Admiral Donald's experience, expertise and integrity to our Board of Directors," said Leo Denault, Entergy's chairman and chief executive officer. "He has honorably served our country in the U.S. Navy, and has held important leadership positions in the Navy's nuclear program. His advice and counsel on a wide range of issues, including nuclear, of importance to our owners, customers, employees and communities will be extremely valuable."

Donald has had an extensive and decorated Navy career. He held a variety of command positions, including commander, Naval Submarine Forces and commander, Allied Submarine Command in Norfolk, Va. 

Donald also held key shore assignments during his career, most recently serving as director, Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program from November 2004 to November 2012. Donald retired from the Navy effective Jan. 1, 2013. 

He is authorized to wear the Navy Distinguished Service Medal (three awards), Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit with four gold stars, and the Meritorious Service Medal with one gold star, in addition to several other personal and unit awards.

Originally from Norlina, N.C., Donald graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1975 with a bachelor's degree in ocean engineering. He also holds a master's degree in business administration from the University of Phoenix and is a graduate of Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government Senior Executive Fellows Program.  

Donald will sit on the nuclear and finance committees of the board. With this addition, which is effective immediately, the Entergy board stands at 11 members.
