Entergy Texas Announces Agencies Receiving $150K to Help Imelda Victims

There’s no place like home for the holidays, but that takes on a whole new meaning for many still recovering from Tropical Storm Imelda. For those still recovering, their wish list this holiday season may include basic necessities like a full pantry, tools to help rebuild and clean sheets to get a good night’s rest.

To help customers recover from Imelda, Entergy Texas is contributing $150,000 to local organizations focused on helping rebuild communities across Southeast Texas. The contributions are part of the $350,000 commitment that the company made following Tropical Storm Imelda. 

 “Southeast Texas has always showed its resiliency in the face of adversity, and we’re proud to support our communities as they rebuild following Tropical Storm Imelda,” said Sallie Rainer, president and CEO of Entergy Texas, Inc. “We hope these contributions will help our neighbors get back on their feet and help build Southeast Texas back stronger than ever.”

To distribute the funds, Entergy turned to the Foundation for Southeast Texas, a nonprofit, public charity that accepts funds from donors, manages them and distributes them to nonprofits in the local community.

“Our community has been ravaged by Tropical Storm Imelda and this donation from Entergy Texas will go directly to the families impacted in Southeast Texas, some of whom are still recovering from Hurricane Harvey.” said Mellie Bevilacqua, executive director of the Foundation for Southeast Texas. “We’re thankful for community partners like Entergy Texas who continue to show up for Southeast Texas.”

Local organizations receiving funding include:

• Southeast Texas Emergency Relief Fund, $38,000
• The Mission Northeast, $25,000
• Orange County Disaster Rebuild, $20,000
• Community Assistance Center, $20,000
• Chambers County, St. Vincent de Paul, $10,000
• Southeast Texas Food Bank, $8,000
• Anayat House, $8,000
• Family Services of Southeast Texas, $8,000
• Liberty County Long-Term Recovery, $5,000
• Community Impact Center, $2,500
• Humble Area Assistance Ministries, $2,500
• Hardin County Strong, $3,000

The remaining funds include a $150,000 corporate donation to the American Red Cross and an additional $50,000 match of employee contributions through employee fund-raising drives that benefits fellow employees who suffered loss in the storm.
