Entergy today completed the sale of the subsidiary that owns the Palisades Power Plant to Holtec International to ensure a safe and timely decommissioning of the nuclear site. The sale of the Palisades plant completes Entergy’s planned exit from the nuclear merchant power business.

Control room operators at Entergy’s Palisades Power Plant safely removed the nuclear reactor from service for the final time today, May 20, 2022. The final shut down marks the end of more than 50 successful years of safe, secure, and reliable generation of clean, carbon-free electricity at Palisades, which began commercial operation in 1971.
From supporting the environment, education and low-income areas to teaching students about nuclear energy, grants were provided in communities where Entergy’s nuclear plants operate. This includes Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Michigan.
Entergy Corporation and Holtec International, through their affiliates, jointly submitted a License Transfer Application today with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission requesting approval to transfer the NRC licenses for the Palisades Nuclear Plant to Holtec following its shutdown and permanent defueling in the spring of 2022.
Entergy remains committed to the safe, secure, and reliable operation of Palisades until the plant’s permanent shutdown in the spring of 2022.
Palisades Power Plant returned to service this morning, following the completion of its successful scheduled refueling and maintenance outage. Control room personnel returned the plant to operation, sending electricity to the grid after a planned shutdown that began October 28. This was the 26th refueling in the plant’s history.
Palisades Power Plant has begun a scheduled $62 million refueling and maintenance outage, reflecting a commitment to safe, secure, and reliable operations until the facility’s permanent retirement in spring of 2022. It is the 26th such outage since the plant opened in 1971.
Entergy has agreed to sell the subsidiaries that own the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station in Plymouth, Massachusetts, and the Palisades Power Plant in Covert, Michigan, after their shutdowns and reactor defuelings, to a Holtec International subsidiary for accelerated decommissioning.
Entergy Corporation announced today that it plans to operate Palisades Power Plant in Covert, Michigan, until the spring of 2022, under the existing Power Purchase Agreement with Consumers Energy.
