Severe Cold Weather Front Causes 28,000 Outages in Arkansas

02/16/2015

Our workers are restoring power as a winter storm moves through our territory. The storm is affecting Arkansas, north Louisiana and north Mississippi and could bring up to 1/2-inch of ice in some areas. A second round of winter weather may follow tomorrow.

Precipitation is falling in Arkansas, north Louisiana and north Mississippi. The forecast calls for snow, freezing rain and up to ½-inch ice accumulation in some areas, with 3/8-inch predicted elsewhere. Using weather forecasts and computer models based on knowledge from past storms, we are planning to restore widespread and extended power outages.

We have brought in an additional 1,000 restoration workers from other parts – and outside of – our territory to respond to outages as necessary.

We have positioned crews in centrally-located areas close to where they will be needed to restore power. You may see trucks, other vehicles and workers lined up while we process them into our system, taking inventory of equipment and personnel and giving a complete safety orientation.
