For more than a week, daily thunderstorms rocked Entergy Mississippi’s service territory, causing widespread outages and requiring a storm response effort not seen since Hurricane Katrina. More than 2,300 workers have been deployed to get the lights back on. As this work continues, Mississippi residents without power are dealing with the summer heat.

Entergy shareholders donated $20,000 to the American Red Cross to support cooling centers and help customers through this difficult time as the restoration efforts continue. The Red Cross has opened cooling centers and is making hot meals and ice available at several locations in Jackson.

Some locations are available for overnight stays and offer residents the opportunity to charge their cell phones and other devices. So far, the Red Cross has provided overnight stays for 22 individuals, served more than 1,684 meals and snacks, and provided relief supplies to 243 households. More than 27 Red Cross volunteers have supported the response efforts, which have also included 51 disaster assessments. Of those, 27 had minor damage and 17 were destroyed.
