Entergy Recognized as a Top U.S. Utility in Economic Development for 13 Years

09/12/2020

Site Selection magazine has named Entergy one of the nation’s Top 10 electric utilities in economic development for the 13th consecutive year. The recognition is due in large part to the vital role Entergy played in supporting projects that resulted in nearly $18.2 billion of capital investment and the creation of more than 5,463 new jobs within our service territory in 2019.

“At Entergy, we are committed to fostering growth in the communities we are so privileged to serve,” said Rod West, utility group president for Entergy Corporation. “Investing in the local workforce across our four-state service area is just one more way we are building the premier utility. We are pleased to be recognized as one of the nation’s top electric utilities for economic development and look forward to many years of continued success for our communities.”

Serving some of the largest and most energy-intensive industries in the United States, Entergy has been directly involved in major development projects that resulted in $153 billion of capital investment and nearly 100,000 jobs within Entergy’s service territory over the past 13 years.

These investments represent a variety of industries and companies, such as CZ Firearms ($90M Capex), Diamond Green ($1.1B Capex), ExxonMobil ($469M Capex), Formosa Plastics ($332M Capex), Methanex ($1.4B Capex), Valero ($400M Capex), Baxter International ($100M Capex) and Medline Industries ($46M Capex) in 2019 alone. These illustrate the scale and breadth of projects in the Entergy Region.

Criteria used by Site Selection for its rankings include the use of innovative programs and incentives for business, website tools and data and each utility’s job-creating infrastructure and facility investment trends. One example includes Entergy’s Site Development program, which directly affected 31 counties to further enhance the competitiveness of Entergy’s industrial sites.

The ranking may be viewed in the magazine’s Sept. 2020 print issue and on the Site Selection website.
