The power of food: Entergy feeds hungry Mississippians

11/08/2022

Food-insecure families can put nourishing meals on the table this month, thanks to a partnership between Extra Table and Entergy Mississippi that is stocking food pantry shelves throughout the state.

Extra Table purchases nutritious, shelf stable food for 57 food pantry partners throughout Mississippi every month. In 2021, Extra Table launched the Everyone Eats program, allowing individual and business partners to work with the feeding organization to provide food for the entire state of Mississippi for one month.

This month, Entergy Mississippi is feeding the state of Mississippi with a $60,000 donation that covers the cost of food to Extra Table’s state-wide partners for the full month of November. Extra Table will be able to purchase food at below wholesale prices and provide more than 360,000 Mississippians with meals for the entire month, distributed through local pantry partners.

“November is the start of the giving season, and we can think of no better way to give to our neighbors in need and show our thankfulness for our fellow Mississippians,” said Haley Fisackerly, Entergy Mississippi president and CEO. “We’re also encouraging our employees to give. They’re caring, selfless individuals who donate countless volunteer hours to causes that better our communities. This partnership seemed an ideal way to honor their desire to help others, while also giving them an opportunity to participate and helping us all make a meaningful difference in the lives of many.”

“Getting the best food to the most people is what we do at Extra Table,” added Martha Allen, Extra Table’s executive director. “Our ultimate mission is to provide our food pantry partners with the new, most nutritious food that they desperately need in order to keep their community fed and healthy. Our Everyone Eats program is just one of the innovative solutions that is delivering on solving our hunger problem in Mississippi, and we are extremely grateful for opportunities to partner with local businesses like in our efforts to feed everyone in our state.”

Extra Table welcomes donations from other companies and individuals, like Entergy and its employees. Allen says when contributing to Extra Table, 100% of the donation goes straight toward food purchasing, and $1 donated provides 5.9 healthy meals to Mississippians.
