Entergy Mississippi storm update – 5/20/25, 2:30 p.m.
05/20/2025

Entergy Mississippi crews are making progress restoring power after severe weather impacted north Mississippi Sunday night, Monday morning and again Tuesday morning. High winds, heavy rain, lightning and thunderstorm activity brought down trees and limbs, causing approximately 18,500 storm related outages across the service area. As of 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, power had been restored to 15,022 customers. Past drought conditions also continue to make dead trees outside of the right-of-way a cause of many outages.
With more severe weather expected to impact the service area Tuesday evening, restoration efforts could be impacted, and some outages may carry over into Wednesday. Customers are encouraged to prepare for additional threatening weather and potential outages. Visit the Entergy Storm Center to get storm ready.
More than 600 crew members including linemen, damage assessors, vegetation workers and support personnel are working to restore power as safely and quickly as possible.
So far, damage assessment is 80% complete. Assessors have found damage to more than 65 poles and 40 cross arms. In ideal conditions, it takes a crew about 3 hours to set a new power pole.
For updated estimated restoration times throughout the day, view our outage map. These estimates are subject to change as damage assessment continues and as additional weather impacts our service area.
Please remember, Entergy restoration workers cannot restore power to a location with a damaged meter base, conduit or weather head (the metal pipe extending upward from the structure with electrical cables inside). These items must be repaired by a qualified electrician before our workers can restore power. Learn more about the electrical equipment that serves your home.
We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience as our crews safely work to restore customers’ power.
As with any weather event, please be mindful of the following safety tips:
- Live wires can be deadly. Stay away from downed power lines. Call 1-800-9OUTAGE or 1-800-968-8243 to report downed or dangling power lines, damaged or downed poles or other damaged equipment.
- Do not trim trees or remove debris on or near downed power lines. Only power company crews or their contractors should remove trees or limbs touching power lines. Again, stay away from downed power lines.
- Keep away from the immediate areas where crews are working. There is always the danger of moving equipment and the possibility of construction materials, limbs or overhead wires falling to the ground.
- If you plan on using a generator for temporary power, get a licensed electrician and disconnect from the utility electric system before hooking up to your main electric panel.
- Do not run a generator in a confined space without adequate ventilation. Use them only outdoors, following all manufacturers’ safety guidelines.
Turn off any electrical appliances that can easily be turned to the off position until power is restored.
