Entergy Texas grant helps fund a new electric vehicle charging station on campus

BEAUMONT, Texas – As part of the company’s commitment to help its customers and communities meet their sustainability goals, Entergy Texas, Inc. granted $14,000 to Lamar University to install a new electric charging station located at the university police department. The charging station is open for use by students, employees and the public.

“We’re proud to partner with Lamar University to help expand access to electric vehicle infrastructure on their campus,” said Stuart Barrett, vice president of customer service for Entergy Texas. “Through these partnerships, we are supporting all of our stakeholders as we work together to build stronger and cleaner communities.”

The project was made possible through Entergy’s Environmental Initiatives Fund, which provides shareholder-funded grants that help better the environment by reducing emissions, protecting natural resources and restoring wetlands and forests. Entergy is currently accepting proposals for 2022 funding consideration through June 30, 2022.

"We are pleased to have added the electric vehicle charging capabilities to our campus and we are grateful for the support that Entergy Texas has provided,” said Bert Wagner, interim chief operations officer at Lamar University. “In 2019, we installed a charging station in the Montagne Center's north parking lot that provides easy access to our faculty, staff, students, and community members. Installing this additional charging station in a central campus location adds capacity that is needed to bolster our sustainability efforts here at LU."

The Edison Electric Institute estimates 18 million EVs will be on U.S. roads by 2030. To support the growth and accessibility of EVs, last year, Entergy joined with five other utilities to form the Electric Highway Coalition to ensure that electric vehicle drivers have access to a seamless network of charging stations connecting major highway systems.
