In another move to harness the power of the sun where empty commercial rooftops once stood, Entergy New Orleans and the New Orleans Regional Transit Authority have reached agreement to install solar panels on the roof of the agency’s Carrollton Streetcar Barn. The 300-kilowatt system will feed directly onto the Entergy New Orleans electric distribution grid for the benefit of all customers, and is part of Entergy New Orleans’ 5-megawatt commercial-scale rooftop solar project, which was approved by the New Orleans City Council last year.

Entergy New Orleans is piloting a new program that puts solar panels on the rooftops of low-income customers’ homes and gives them a $30 credit on their energy bills every month, rain or shine. The Residential Rooftop Solar Program is a simple and straightforward way for New Orleans customers in need to participate in the benefits of distributed renewable energy.

Where empty commercial rooftops once stood, shiny new panels are capturing the power of the sun and putting it directly on the electric distribution grid for the benefit of all customers. Entergy New Orleans has made significant progress in constructing its 5 megawatt commercial-scale rooftop solar pilot project, which was approved by the New Orleans City Council in June 2018.

Entergy leadership hosted elected officials, community leaders and other dignitaries today at existing company property in New Orleans East to break ground on the city's first utility-scale solar project.
